5 Bean Chili
Taste real Mexican cooking with this classic bean dish. Bell peppers, garlic and onion and our 5 bean varieties, complemented with just the right amount of heat.
Rinse beans. Add 2 cups water + 4 cups chicken or vegetable bouillon or broth along with vegetable & seasoning packet & a 28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes.
STOVE TOP: Bring to a boil. Partially cover & lower heat. Cook till beans are tender, 2-3 hours.
OR SLOW COOKER: Cook for 6-8 hours on LOW; 3-4 hours on HIGH according to your cooker's directions.
SERVE with SALT & PEPPER TO TASTE.
Other suggestions . . . just before serving add
- In olive oil saute 1 lb. beef chuck cut into small 1/2" cubes & add along with tomatoes
- Just before serving, add 2 cups of diced cooked chicken or turkey
- Serve over rice
- Serve with toppers of sour cream, diced onion or grated cheese
- Add fresh or frozen corn before serving
